Dear readers, TWAtB will be on hiatus for the next week. I'm attending a very, very important conference out of town with my wife, our swimsuits, and a guy selling cold mixed drinks in coconuts. In my absence, I've pulled together links to some of my favourite posts from the past few years. Enjoy. The Pimp Told Me To Do It Tales From The Green: Double Fantasy I Want My TV Stand Back! I'm sure all of you were distraught over the fact that The World According To Buchs was apparently missing for the last 18 hours. Nothing to fear, just doing a little bit of housecleaning. For instance, you may have noticed that the URL of the site has changed - we're now sitting at bryanbuchs.com instead of www.bryanbuchs.com. I think I have my mod_rewrite rules configured correctly, so anything bookmarked at the old address should redirect to the new automatically. I also removed the "/archives/..." from the URLs - again, fingers crossed, but it should be transparent.
If you're a regular visitor to the World According To Buchs, you might have noticed that the same 4 or 5 posts on the home page. In fact, if you were to browse the archives, you'd see one post in January '08, and a few back in October of '07. Well, the good news is that I finally found the password that allows me to post again! I suppose that's the only reasonable and acceptable excuse for not posting for the last 5 or 6 months, right?
It's always fun to take a peek at my server logs. For this site, it's entirely a curiosity thing; for my other site, I track the effectiveness of some advertising I do online, and generally see what's getting traffic and what isn't. I popped open the stats page a few minutes ago, and saw a tremendous spike for last Thursday. For April, I had been averaging around 200 "hits" a day or so - Thursday the 14th was 4,523. I assumed I'd see some additional traffic after the CCI launch and hoopla, but that's a big spike. I also noticed that one of the higher entries in the referer list was ...
I've had this new design idea kicking around for several weeks. I've been trying to find the time here and there to work it out, but time is pretty scarce these days. So, last week, I decided to just throw it out there, and keep working on it as I get the chance. So, the whole site has a new look to it. In the next few days/weeks, I'll add some new features. In the meantime, pardon the dust. If you see anything glaringly wrong, let me know.
As I pointed out in my last post, I'm working on an overhaul to my site. I've got a lot of things planned, going beyond a new look. I've run into a roadblock though: I have no witty, clever title. The Chuck has "The Life Of Leisure". Dan has something. Everybody has something. All I got is "my weblog". So, I'm looking for suggestions. Anyone? Note: "Mr. Aster-risk", and any variants thereof are immediately disqualified.
I've been kicking around an idea for a re-design of the site for a few months now. It goes in spurts - some days, ideas are flowing like beer, others I struggle to come up with anything new. This has been a good week. It's nowhere near complete - for instance, there's no site navigation - but I do have a prototype up. Give it a look and see what you think - I'd love to hear any feedback. As long as I'm on the topic, I gave The Chuck's site a facelift yesterday, too.
