My trusty iPod has finally bit the dust. Purchased in early 2003, this first-generation iPod with a whopping 5GB of storage was used almost daily for the first 2 years of its existence. Over the last 8 months or so, the battery life had slipped down to about a 2-hour range. Over the last month, that plumetted to 20 minutes of life. And, in the last week, I've been unable to even mount it on my PC to transfer songs. My iPod was first put to use in conjunction with my old Titanium Powerbook, just as Jobs intended. Apple just announced the next generation model of the iPod. As had been speculated, the new version has a color screen, and adds the ability to store and view photos. There's a new cable that will allow you to connect it to your TV set and run a slideshow. Cool, I guess... There was speculation that there would be a version of iPhoto released for Windows, and that application would be how photos would be transferred to the iPod. Instead, they released an upgraded version of iTunes that does the same thing. With the addition of photos, the iPod now transfers over album cover art via iTunes, which is actually kind of ...
There was a new version of iTunes released yesterday. I was reading up over at SlashDot, and found a posting there about it. I raced over to the download page, grabbed the installer, and did my thing. I made my way back over to /. to report on my findings. Window controls are in the upper-left side, and the window title itself is centered. # Right-Clicking the titlebar brought up an Options menu that I've never seen before. It's called "Plugin Options", and has preferences like "skin the ...
There's a new version of iTunes available today (v4.5). Not a drastic upgrade, but they did add some new features: # iMix Post and email songs in your playlists for everyone to see. # Party Shuffle Something about playlists. I'm not sure what exactly it is yet. # Quick Links Your library tunes now have a link to the Music Store. Click on the arrow icon to see other songs on that album or by that artist. # Convert WMA to AAC For those of you who didn't know any better, and started ripping CDs into WMA format - you can now convert them over to AAC ...
The iTunes Link Maker generates links to specific songs, albums, or artists within the iTunes Music Store. If you've got iTunes installed, clicking on the link launches the iTunes app, opens the store, and displays whatever you're linking to. For instance... here's a link to a CD that my good friend Tha' Chuck got me to celebrate the birth of the baby jeebus: The Polyphonic Spree: Now if only they'd expand this to somehow tie in commissions...
