My trusty iPod has finally bit the dust. Purchased in early 2003, this first-generation iPod with a whopping 5GB of storage was used almost daily for the first 2 years of its existence. Over the last 8 months or so, the battery life had slipped down to about a 2-hour range. Over the last month, that plumetted to 20 minutes of life. Apple just announced the next generation model of the iPod. As had been speculated, the new version has a color screen, and adds the ability to store and view photos. There's a new cable that will allow you to connect it to your TV set and run a slideshow. Cool, I guess... There was speculation that there would be a version of iPhoto released for Windows, and that application would be how photos would be transferred to the iPod. I recently added 6-7 albums worth of U2 to my iPod. I already had a few of them on there - The Joshua Tree, The Unforgettable Fire. I added a boatload of newer material - Pop, Zooropa, Achtung Baby, All That You Can't Leave Behind. I've come to the realization that I just don't like U2. I hate to sound like one of those guys who turns on a band when they make it big, but the older stuff was better. And, I'm going to limit that to The Joshua Tree (I still place it in my top 10 all-time albums), and most of The Unforgettable Fire. Anything released post-Rattle & Hum just doesn't do it for me.
