I wish I were an Insider

In an article for ESPN "Insider" today, John Hollinger writes about how the "Bucks aren't as good as standings indicate", and that they're more lucky than good (13-1 in games decided by 5 or less). Since the full article is only available to subscribers ($$), I won't get to read his full rationale for that argument. From what I can tell, he's basing it on a recent game between the Pacers and Bucks (the Good Guys lost 112-88). Now, if somebody wants to argue that the Pacers are better than the Bucks, that's fine (although: IND -J.O. ). But statements like this are just plain stupid: «And Milwaukee, despite seemingly heading toward a playoff season, is actually no better ...

There’s plenty of room

From Bill Simmons' NBA Preview, Part I today: (That's right, from the man who gave you the 2005 Chicago Bears Playoff Bandwagon, I give you ... the 2006 Milwaukee Bucks Playoff Bandwagon! And I'll go this far: They could possibly climb to as high as No. 5. You're looking at this year's Chicago. Just wait.) So, I'm watching the game last night, and it's time for dinner. Thanks to the magic of DVR, I'm able to pause the game with just over 1 minute to play, and the Bucks down by 5 or 7. I enjoy a nicely medium-rare NY Strip steak with a glass of Shiraz, then return to the couch to ...

Green Bay vs Atlanta: September 8, 2002

ESPN has another of their Top 10 [Fill-In-The-Blank] lists online. This one is The best NFL openers. Number 9 on the list: September 8, 2002, Atlanta at Green Bay. The only time I've made the trip up to Lambeau Field. My dad & his friend John used to have season tickets when the Packers played home games at County Stadium. When they moved all the games back to Green Bay, the Milwaukee ticket holders were allowed to move up there. So, ever since, there have been "Green Bay" games and "Milwaukee" games - 4 each. About 4 years ago, John, who had been ...

Fantasy Football

I received an e-mail yesterday from ESPN regarding the renewal of our Fantasy Football League service (related posts). Let me sum up our collective experience with ESPN last season: "crap". The previous season, based on the recommendations of Dan, we went with RT Sports. All in all, that went pretty well. Occassionally, their real-time scoring was a little slow, but other than that, they were very reliable. Before the start of the 2002/2003 season, I got an e-mail from ESPN announcing their new service. I thought about it for a while, and assumed that the application would be as tight as the rest of their site. And, I thought that ...

ESPN Toolbar

I did a search on ESPN this morning, and on the results page, there was a sidebar that listed popular search terms. One of the top 3 was "espn toolbar". Looks like it's currently in Beta, but I installed it anyways. I'm going to play around with it for a few days and see what I think about it - it might be easier than going to the site every few hours.
