So I ordered my new iPhone 4 this morning.

Something that I just started considering… much of the buzz about the new phone is the “Retina Display”. It’s a much higher resolution screen than the original iPhone (960x640 vs 320×480). In an ideal world, every app developer had created their GUI elements as vector art, not pixelated bitmaps. iPhone-standard UI elements — buttons, tabs, etc — are already vector, so those will scale nicely with the larger display area. What about apps that weren’t as forward-looking and designed to fit the dimensions of the original iPhone? Am I in for a rude awakening when I load up the hardware with my old software? Will those upscale to fill the display?
