I played an exhibition round with Dan, Les and his father on Sunday. A promising start to the 2008 golf season.
Winds were whipping off the lake at Grant Park. My round began with a shanked tee shot on #1, followed by another shank, which was then followed by a 155 yard 8-iron that left me with a 12-footer for par (missed). The next few holes were unspectacular, but on #5 I started to find my swing. On the 205-yard par-3 #7, I hit a towering 5-iron that landed a few feet from the fringe… then shanked the pitch and 3-putted my way to a double-bogey. Finished the front with a respectable (considering the circumstances) 51, two shots ahead of 2007 Buchs Cup Champion Les Hermann.
I felt good on the back, but Les was better, moving into the lead. After a par on the 215-yard 15th hole, I pulled back even. The 16th saw Les miss an easy putt to hold a share of the lead, but I gave it right back on #17 with my own missed gimmie.
And then I imploded on #18, shanking my tee shot, followed by another shank… etc. Les finished 3 strokes ahead. A few points:
So taking those points into account, we tied. Way to go, Bryan!

That Les, he’s a riot. Here’s a recap of a googlechat we had yesterday.
Les: How’s your throat;
Me: Huh?;
Les: You know, because you were choking so badly on Sunday.

If you don’t mind, I’d like to be called Mr. Buchs Cup for the duration of the 2008 season. Thank you.
