The Last Lollapalooza Recap Update of 2007

You may not have read or heard about this, but the boys and I made a trip to Chicago this summer for Lollapalooza. Good times, good times…

One evening, most of us were making our way from seeing a show on the South end (Spoon?) to the North end to see Interpol. It was a bit of a hike, and it also happened to be raining, and we also happened to be drinking quite a bit that day. About halfway there, we took a pit stop to make use of what passed for a restroom. So we’re standing around in our rain ponchos waiting for everyone to finish up, and a couple of guys come up to us. One of them asks how we’re doing and who we’re going to see, and then mentions that he’s writing an article for the Christian Science Monitor. It’s about the addition of several “luxury box” areas to the festival - covered private cabanas and tents available for rent during the festival - and he’d like to get our take on it. I happened to be closest to him, and possibly the only one paying attention or lucid enough to give a response. He took some notes and asked if he could use my quote and name in his article.

I don’t know why, but this weekend I thought about that exchange and did a search to see if anything came of it. So, if you’re interested, here’s the article - Luxury Palooza! My quote doesn’t appear until page 3, but if you just want to hear what I apparently had to say:

Caught in a middle of a sudden rain shower on Saturday, Bryan Buchs, a Milwaukee native, suggested that the Lolla Lounges seemed to be “mostly for people who want to say they’ve been to the festival. But they haven’t actually been out there to see it.”
