I’ve got an early morning round of golf schedule for Saturday. I have a feeling that at the very least, I will get a chance to “watch some shit” and possibly win myself $5.00. I’m also hoping for a Tales-From-The-Green-Worthy performance by Bryan Buchs so I can write about it.
Speaking of, whilst on vacation a few weeks ago, Dan, Andy and I played a round at Northwoods Golf Club in Rhinelander, WI. Probably the toughest course I’ve ever played. Fairways were narrow and tree-lined - I lost at least 9 balls by my count (3 in the water, the rest in the trees). The biggest challenge on the course was the greens. I’ve never played anything comparable to the speed and slope of these greens. Just brutal. Andy & I both put tee shots on a par 3 within 15 feet, then three-putted our way to bogeys.
Don’t get me wrong, we had a great time. It was a beautiful course. Dan came this close to braining a deer with a 7-iron on one hole. The carts had a GPS system installed so you knew the actual distance to the green, hole, and any hazard you needed to carry. Outstanding locker room for members & guests, and great beverage service on the course. The capper was that the premium parking spots were reserved for Men’s and Ladies’ Club Champions.
If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend checking it out. Just remember that it’s right on Highway 17 8.
Update!
I made a trip over to Missing Links after work to hit the driving range. My usual routine is to start with a pitching wedge and work my way up to the driver. I currently have two drivers in my bag - a TaylorMade and my Addams “Big Blue” driver. Or should I say I had two drivers. I took a few swings with Big Blue, and on the 4th or 5th shot, I caught the ground before the ball, and the driver head went *flying* - probably 70 yards out into the range. I had the guys around me stop shooting for a minute while I ran out to retreive it - I plan to give it a proper sendoff this weekend.
