I was having a little trouble coming up with a title for this post, so I decided to skip the usual witty title in favor of the blunt and straightforward "I Killed A Bear", since that is exactly what happened on Thursday night. Judy & I were on the road to The Cabin, which is located between Rhinelander and Eagle River. Mike & Sue weren't able to make it up there this past weekend, so they offered to let us take over and bring some friends. Judy & I decided to make a long weekend of it and took Friday off work. It's a 4+ hour drive, and hit the ...
I've been doing some web work lately using a relatively new javascript library called "jQuery". It's lightweight, simple, and powerful. It's also got a growing community of developers continuing to enhance and extend it. Yesterday, I came across a side project someone was doing - "date picker" (click on an icon, up pops an interactive calendar, you select a date, date fills in on a form). I was in need of something like that, so I gave it a longer look. I found that, although it was really neat, there were some things that I thought could have been done better, or make it easier to use. So I posted my comments to a mailing list. 4 or 5 ...
Judy took me to see my good friend, David ("Dah-Veed") Garza on Friday night. David ("Dah-Veed") was opening up for Fiona Apple at the Riverside. We had great seats - just to the right of center stage, second row. I won't bother with a full review, but here's a few of my notes: No "Discoball World"? David ("Dah-Veed") played a solo acoustic set that ran about 30 minutes. He opened up with "Kinder" and "Float Away", then played a half-dozen songs I've never heard before. I just assumed that he would close out with "Discoball World" - instead he brought someone else onstage and did another song I have never heard before. Still a good set, though. What a crowd!, Part I As ...
I was flipping through channels this weekend, trying to avoid the comedically high temperatures. I believe it was Sunday night when I stumbled across the last half of the pilot episode for "The Amazing Screw-On Head". It's a cartoon staring the voices of Paul Giamatti, David Hyde Pierce, and Molly Shannon, created by the Mike Mignola ("Hellboy"). Sci-Fi's summary: In this hilarious send-up of Lovecraftian horror and steampunk adventure, President Abraham Lincoln's top spy is a bodyless head known only as Screw-On Head. When arch-fiend Emperor Zombie steals an artifact that will enable him to threaten all life on Earth, the task of stopping him is assigned to Screw-on Head. Fortunately, Screw-On Head is not alone on this perilous quest. He ...
