To get right to it, I shot a round of 95 this weekend at Currie Park. At the start of the season, I set a goal for myself that by the end of July, I wanted to break 100 - something I had never done. I opened up with a 53 on the front, which included 2 lost balls + drops. Around the 6th or 7th hole, I went to “Plan B”, and put away the driver that I hadn’t hit in the fairway all day. From there out, it was the 3-wood off the tee.
I opened up the back 9 with bogey-bogey-bogey-par, thanks to a few fortunate caroms off and around the trees. In particular, I hit a stong 7-iron over/into a massive oak tree that had no business even staying in play - which popped out of the tree and landed on the green.
Anyways, if you do the math, you’ll see that I shot a 42 on the back nine. I missed a 3-footer for par on the par-5 12th, another on the 15th, and flubbed two shots on the 17th. There was also an “incident” involving Dan Cody and a shiny silver coin earlier in the round. All in all, I think I had 4 or 5 shots that I wish I could have back, which would have put me right around 90.
So now I’m faced with a dilema: continue hitting the 3-wood off the tee, or struggle through my problems with the driver?
