Tales From The Green: Great Golf Holes In Bryan Buchs’ History

In what I hope will become a regular feature here at The World According To Buchs, I'd like to recount recent Great Golf Holes In Bryan Buchs' History. This last Saturday, I played nine holes early at Lincoln Park. Normally, I'd never be satisfied with nine holes, but the weather in Milwaukee was just brutal this weekend - wicked hot. So nine it was. Speaking of nine, that's where the story starts and ends. The rest of the round was infinitely forgettable. Stepping up to the tee on #9, a 298 yard par four hole, I pulled Big Blue out my my bag. I haven't hit this driver but maybe 5 times this season - and none of those held the ...

Damn Mom, That’s Cold!

Not *my* mom of course. Check out these quotes from the mother of Tour de France champion Floyd Landis, who just Tested Positive for High Levels of Testosterone. Arlene Landis, his mother, told the Associated Press today that would not blame her son if he was taking pain medication because of the injured hip. "If it's something worse than that, then he doesn't deserve to win," she said in a phone interview from her home in Farmersville, Pa. Arlene Landis said she had not spoken with her son since the test result was announced early today. "I'm keeping things even keel until I know what the facts are," she said. "I know that ...

Rockstar: Part Deux.

Last summer, Judy and I got hooked on what remains my only foray into "reality tv" - Rockstar: INXS. Those guys found themselves a new lead singer to replace the dead one, and now they're touring the world - coming to a county fair near you! This summer, the show is back with a new "band". Supernova - at this point, I'd call it more of a concept than a band. Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses) and Jason Newsted (Metallica) decided to get together and start a band. They haven't actually recorded anything yet, but they seem to enjoy hanging out on TV together. Anyways, last night was week 4 (I think). Of the original ...

Happy Birthday To Me…

I'm not quite sure what my favourite birthday present was yesterday. The constant stream of puke/poop that my cat left around the condo all day long The Happy Birthday message from my computer: "Hard drive failure is imminent! Replace immediately" The splitting headache and upset stomach (sometimes referred to as a "hangover") I had all day My "Age of Refinement" lifetime achievement award from the International Leisure Society Tickets to see my main man David Garza next month at the Riverside I'll go with #5 (Thanks Judy!).

Happy Birthday Buddy!

Happy Birthday to one of my oldest, dearest friends, Mr. Charles "Tha' Chuck" Rozewicz. Chuck and I are both a couple of Polish kids from the south side who made good. I still remember the day we met: he strolled - no, swaggered - onto the soccer team's bus. I instantly thought to myself, "what a prick!" As it turns out, I was somewhat wrong. Chuck and I have had many adventures over the years - far too many to recount here. A few that spring to mind, though:In a word: "Chuckfest".  It was a good run, highlighted by the 100+ attendees at Chuckfest IV (Believe The Hype). No, it's not coming back. The CBGA ...

A friend TO the trees, a friend OF the trees.

To get right to it, I shot a round of 95 this weekend at Currie Park. At the start of the season, I set a goal for myself that by the end of July, I wanted to break 100 - something I had never done. I opened up with a 53 on the front, which included 2 lost balls + drops. Around the 6th or 7th hole, I went to "Plan B", and put away the driver that I hadn't hit in the fairway all day. From there out, it was the 3-wood off the tee. I opened up the back 9 with bogey-bogey-bogey-par, thanks to a few fortunate caroms off and around the trees. In particular, I hit a stong ...

The Five Blade Razor Conspiracy?

Gillette launched their new Five-Bladed razor, the "Fusion" with a big-money commercial on Super Bowl Sunday last year. Like many of you, I was intrigued. In March, I broke down and purchased one. I've been shaving with it ever since. This razor is the finest shave I've ever had, period. I'm not here to debate that. What I am about to bring to your attention, however, is both shocking and horrifying. Was the move to a five-bladed razor the next logical step in shaving technology? Yes. But is there something more sinister going on here? Undoubtedly, yes. Since becoming a regular user of the Gillette Fusion razor, I've found it neccessary to shave more frequently. Here is a chart of ...
