The Cowboy rides off into the sunset

I just saw that the Bucks traded Desmond Mason to Hornets for Jamaal Magloire.

I hate this move.

Mason has been my Favourite Buck since they shipped Ray-Ray out of town a few years ago. Aside from being a pretty damn good player, he was also a great guy. Last year, he had a gallery showing of his artwork. He also warmed up to the city quickly after being traded here.

I know Magloire is a big body, and we had a few too many small fowrards on the team, but I really thought this was going to be Desmond’s breakout year. Word on the street is that he really bulked up over the summer, and was ready to lay the smackdown on the league. I also think we gave up too much in the deal - Mason, a future 1st rounder, AND cash money (American).

So, I’m looking for a new Favourite Buck. As of right now, it’s looking like Toni Kukoc or TJ. TJ’s got the whole comeback player of the year thing going on, but I really like Old Man Toni.

  1. Bryan, I understand your allegiances, Des was a great guy and a valuable piece on the Bucks. He was a true asset to the community.

You know what else is an asset to the community?

A big ass parade down Wisconsin Avenue some fine June morning with Bucks holding the trophy.

    Dude…….

    1. Magloire is 27 years old and costs as much as Desmond in salary.
    2. “Mags” was an all star in 2004 and led the East squad with 19 points that game
    3. Des was clearly a “tweener” with limited size to defend and had no outside shot at age 28. The pre-season games spelled that out pretty easily. Des isn’t getting any better than middle class.
    4. Bobby Simmons is better than Desmond Mason. All around at every facet. Any NBA GM would want Simmons over Mason.
    5. Magloire is equal to the community presence that Des was and spearheaded New Orleans Katrina stuff on behalf of the Hornets and will show up in Milwaukee.
    6. Des’ contract would be expiring shortly on the horizon, the same as Magloire’s expires in two years. Who do you want to max out? A 6′5″ swingman who can’t shoot or an All-Star Big? Put money on the bigs every time.
    7. Mag’s line on Shaq last night: 12 Points, 15 Boards
    8. During an 8 game tailspin losing streak last season Desmond mason wrote the word “Pride” on his shoes and tried to fire the team up. He then also went out and inconsistently scored 2 points in the 4th quarter and was invisible and unaccountable in any offense or presence. A tweener! I’ll take real deals over towel waving any day.
    9. Bogut and Magloire on the floor at the same time comboing at 4/4 or 4/5 or 5/5
That’s prettier than any garbage time Des highlight dunk on record.
    10. The Chicago Bulls board among others are fuming at this coup. Cleveland is actually worried about us and in some ways so is Indiana, Detroit and Miami. I’m not saying we’re better than the Pacers, Pistons, or Heat, but we’re not 43 wins at best anymore either. This squad is for real. Larry Harris did a great job once again.

50 win seasons and true hype at the BC will make people forget Desmond’s middle class flair.

I want to go to to deep playoff games, not art galleries.
