Buchs Weekend

July 22nd through 25th was "Buchs Weekend" - my birthday was on the 23rd, and the entire weekend was my bachelor party. Here's a quick recap: Thanks, Chuck Chuck handled all the details, and was generally in charge for the weekend. Everything went great. Good job, buddy. The Buchs Open Friday morning, we all met at Petrifying Springs golf course in Kenosha. We sent out 3-threesomes - the first group was myself, my dad, and Judy's dad. I think we were the only ones who weren't drinking on the course. I shot pretty poorly, and my team finished in last place (Thanks, Chuck). Where's my wallet? After golfing and grabbing a bite to eat, we hit the road to Chicago. About 30 minutes past the ...

That smarts!

Early this morning, I drove over to the airport to pick up Judy, who was just arriving back from Hawaii. After placing her suitcase in the back of the trunk, I pulled my arm out, scratching my hand against something on the underside of the trunk - either a bolt or screw. As it turned out, it was a bit more than a scratch. You do not want to click this link!

Who wants to be a rock star?

I'm not really into the whole "reality" tv thing. But the last 2 weeks, Judy and I have been watching one of the summer shows on CBS, "Rock Star: INXS". Unfortunately, it's pretty damn addicting. The format is pretty typical, I think. Instead of "tasks", the contestants sing songs. At the end, one of them is voted out. Just a few of my thoughts... + It's probably the kindest of the reality shows. No "You're fired!", no real back-stabbing or plotting against each other... everyone is relatively nice to each other. At the end of the show, when someone is voted out, Tim Farris says, "I'm sorry, you're just not right for our band (INXS)". He sounds genuinely remorseful. + On that ...

For Raj & Jim

A few years ago, there was an "incident" involving me, a volleyball, and an old man. Let's just say it didn't end well for the old man. Since then, I've been tagged as being anti-elderly. Anyways, there was a piece in the Onion last week that I found amusing and fitting: If The Heat Doesn't Kill The Elderly, I Will. Enjoy.

No Surprise To Me

I just came across a link to an article titled "Lifetime Study: Women Rule DVR Domain". I'm sure the Chuck will join me in a resounding, "Duh!". At any given time, our DVR is filled with: + 35% "What Not To Wear" + 25% "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" + 10% "10 Years Younger" + 10% "Other", which includes: "Battlestar Galactica", "Justice League Unlimited", and "Golf Academy Live" + 20% Free Space These percentages are slightly different during the Winter, when "Lost" will be in full swing, and "24" & "Alias" will be starting their new seasons.

Black, Brown, Polar, Grizzly & Golden

Jack Nicklaus just sank a 14-foot putt for birdie on the 18th hole of the Old Course at St. Andrews - the final golf shot of his professional career. After his tee shot, he took a few minutes to stand on the Swilcan Bridge and pose for photos with his son/caddy and say goodbye to the crowd. Thanks Jack. I'll think of you every time I swing my "Golden Bear" brand lob wedge.

Frak!

The timing is a little bit odd, but tonight marks the return of "Battlestar Galactica" on the Sci-Fi channel. I've written about it before, but I'd would have to say that it is, hands down, one of the 3 best series on television right now. And, probably the best sci-fi series *ever* done. There are so many things that make this show great: topical and thought-provoking plots, fantastic writing, great effects, and a great cast. It's also got one of the best characters around right now, Dr. Gaius Baltar. Anyways, it's fantastic stuff. It's got nothing to to with the original series that aired back in the 70's - not a sequel, but a ...

Permission to Buzz the tower

Since approximately 1:45pm this afternoon, the home offices of Bryan Buchs, LLC have been under attack by the U.S. Navy. A squadron of "Blue Angels" has been sighted in the vicinity. Film at 11:00.

Exciting Times

Wow. I never expected to get the kind of response I did to my ajax-enabled movabletype comments scripting. As I pointed out in the entry, it was heavily inspired by other peoples' works. It was just a matter of time before someone else did it, I just got it out there first. I also didn't do anything to publicize it, but somehow the word got out. The days leading up to that post, I was getting about 100 visitors a day. The week following the entry, I think the average was around 650 visitors. Checking the referral logs, I found links into my site all over the place: SixApart, Movalog, Gadgetopia, and ajaxian.com... and ...
