Site Update

I posted a few “small” changes to the old weblog today. I had really planned on rolling this out back on May 1 for the “reboot“, but didn’t have time to complete it.

Color scheme is generally the same, and the layout is similar. Most of the changes happened “behind the scenes”. Rather than letting MT output everything, I dug through the source code, and am accessing some of the functionality directly via PHP. For instance, under the static publishing model of MT, an entry I wrote 3 months ago wouldn’t receive any updates to “related links” unless I were to go back and output the page again. By letting PHP hit the database directly for certain features, everything (should) be up-to-date from here on out.

I also added a few additional tweaks and things. The old “now playing” box was replaced with the new “Current Playlist”. Again, I had to hack MT to do it, but every song I play with iTunes sends out a ping to this site, which is then parsed, stored, and displayed. I would like to add some links to that list - tied into an Amazon or iTunes Associate program, of course.

The header at the top of the page will change daily. I picked out 7 nice shots from iStockPhoto.com, so there’s one for each day of the week.

There are a few more things still in the works, and a few things I’d like to add that I haven’t even started yet. Hopefully in the next few weeks, I’ll get to finish up.

  2. I’m working on it. Right now, I have to plug it in manually. I’m trying to find a way to automate it.

(FYI, $28.92 as of right now)
