Come On Baby… Light My Fire?

My camera-phone sucks. Our good friend Dan Cody is about to start a new job, and his about-to-be-former-co-workers (some of whom are still around from my days at SM) took him out for cocktails last night. Dan was kind enough to invite me along for the ride.

We started out at Borrego’s on Water Street, but moved over to the Milwaukee Ale House for a bite to eat. On the way in, we couldn’t help but notice the large sign that read “Karaoke Tonight!” For those that don’t know, to Dan that’s the equivalent of offering a smack addict, well, smack. By the time karaoke got started, most everyone had left us for the evening, so it was down to Dan, myself, and Lori from Starkmedia.

Dan was a little down about the fact that the songbook didn’t include any Doors songs. Thats like… his thing, baby. He did manage to pick out a few tunes for the evening. I believe he started out with a rendition of Dean Martin’s “You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves You”, and then I followed up with Bobby Darin’s “More”. The three of us also did a song together, but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was. A few other patrons took the chance to partake of the karaoke. Two were very good, two were very bad, but they all had fun.

Highlight of the night, however, was Dan’s spot-on cover of Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive“. He was a sight to behold - not just sitting on the stool reading lyrics off the monitor, but actively performing the song. Including a little air-guitar strumming, and pointing to the crowd to sing back the Richie Sambora “…wanted!…” background vocal.

So, if you haven’t had the pleasure of taking in a night of karaoke with Dan, it doesn’t take much arm-twisting to get him to do it.

Enjoy the show.
