Did anyone else catch on to the fact that the moderator, Jim Lehrer, repeatedly allowed Bush to break the rules of the debate? It was pretty clearly stated that the format would be question –> 2 minute response –> 90-second rebutal, and then an “optional, at my discretion” 30-second followup for each.
Repeatedly, Bush jumped back in after Kerry’s rebutal, and then they moved onto the next question. Which equates to 2:30 for Bush, 1:30 for Kerry.
At one point, Kerry called him on it. I didn’t catch specifically what he said, but Bush, after Kerry’s rebutal to his response, jumped in with a “I’d like to respond to that…”, and Kerry replied [something like], “Sure, let’s just rewrite the rules as we go…”
Even still, I thought it was a great performance by Kerry. And an even worse performance by Bush. Between the stuttering and the nervous giggles, and the monkey-faced expressions, he flopped.

i’ve said it before… i’ll say it again. kerry will win in a landslide - any democrat would’ve this year.
if i’m wrong, i will gladly leave the country. :)
a voter answers two questions during an election with an incumbant:
1) do i like the current dude?
2) can i stomach the challenger?
people have already answered the first question with a resounding “no”. most people think the country’s going in the wrong direction. look at this - http://www.pollingreport.com/right.htm and bush’s approval rating are hovering around 50%. see this - http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm that is not good for an incumbant, war-time president.
so what about the next question? well, the post-debate coverage indicates that john kerry did himself some good with the first debate. i suspect that trend will continue as we go through the next two - kerry has always been a great debater. more than that though is the fact that bush simply looks like an incompetent fool when he’s challenged - hence all the loyalty-tested crowds at his rallies. these mano-mano encounters put the rugged cowboy bullshit to test. and bush is failing the test. he looks like a child compared to kerry. that fact will tip this one to kerry over the next month.
