I just got back from a lunchtime trip over to the grand opening of the Pick & Save Metro Market.
First, let me say this: they have Karotka.
I was sort of expecting the store to retain the layout from the old Kohl’s. It didn’t - it’s completely different. The main entrance to the store opens into the produce department, and it’s a little cramped. I expect to see bottlenecks there when it gets busy.
Past the produce is the deli and bakery. Nothing to get too excited about.
Around the corner is the meat department. In a word - awsome. It’s easily the finest meat and seafood department I’ve ever seen in a grocery store. Puts V. Richards/Sendicks to shame. It’s that good.
The rest of the store is tucked away in the back. Looks like a smallish selection of things. Not the kind of place you’d want to do your bulk-up grocery shopping, but if you needed a certain something, you could probably find it.
Plenty of checkout lanes, no problems there. Also, there was a liquor store off the main store. I didn’t go inside, but you could see through from the meat department. Looks to have a good selection of wine (at least, a *large* selection of wine).

Oh, I forgot about the pay-by-touch stuff.
http://www.paybytouch.com/
You register for an account, link it to your debit/credit card or checking account, and scan your fingerprint. after that, you can pay by re-scanning your fingerprint - no cash or cards needed.
Of course, once your fingerprints are in the system, The Man can track you down.

Good job on keeping your site up-to-date! Are you planning a weblog update anytime this year? I’m growing a beard here waiting to find out what’s up with you!

although the meat & seafood department LOOK good, i have been very dissapointed with both ahi tuna and scallops. both were so fishy they turned great meals into disasters. i’ll stick with v-richards for seafood, but do enjoy the metro market otherwise.

Carrie, who ever you are, I could not disagree with you more. The meat there is outstanding - and believe me, I know my meat.
I’ve had great success with the seafood there. I get the Giant Prawns fairly often, which are fantastic, and had some great bacon-wrapped sea scallops a while back - also excellent.
