Trailer-Trash

I got very little sleep last night, and I’ve just hit the infamous “wall”. I now have the attention span of a cricket.

So, since I’m not going to get any work done, I thought I’d check out some movie trailers over at Apple.

First up, a movie I’ve been drooling over since I first read about it last year, “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow“. It was initially titled just “World of Tomorrow”, but someone decided to add the Sky Captain bit. Anyways, wow! This one starts “Jude Law”:imdb and “Gwyneth Paltrow”:imdb. The trailer is pretty cool, very stylized. You might watch it and think, “yeah, no big deal - just a retro-sci-fi movie”. Here’s the thing - the entire movie was shot on a bluescreen (well, greenscreen, from what I hear). Anything that isn’t an actor was computer generated. All the scenery. I think that’s just mind-boggling. Anyways, check it out. Also, they have a Sky Captain Game available for download (~50MB, though).

Next up: The Manchurian Candidate. This one stars “Denzel Washington”:imdb, “Liev Schreiber”:imdb, and “Meryl Streep”:imdb. I don’t want to say too much about it, other than it should never have been made. The original film was directed by John Frankenheimer, and starred “Frank Sinatra”:imdb. It was made prior to JFK’s asassination, and shortly after it was released, Sinatra *ordered* that it be removed from circulation. This version is directed by “Jonathan Demme”:imdb. You may have seen a little movie he did called Silence of the Lambs? Again, the original was a very powerful film, and I think it’s going to be hard to top. Doesn’t anybody *write* anymore? This movie’s website also has some sort of game available, but you have to use your phone.

Finally, even though I’ve seen it several times, I decided to watch the trailer for “The Incredibles” - which will be Pixar’s last movie for Disney. I’ve only seen their first one - “Toy Story”:imdb - but I hear the others were quite good. The work by Samuel L. Jackson - the voice of Frozone - alone is enough to make me want to see this movie. If you want to skip the rest of the trailer and see the good stuff, you can go the official website, then click on “Heroes” and “Frozone” - the clips are on the right-hand side of the page [sorry, it's a flash site, and there's no direct link].
