Ciabatta?

Cousin's Ciabatta sandwichesThis is the kind of entry I usually reserve for the “What’s For Lunch” section of my site. However, I thought that there just wasn’t enough space reserved over there to pull this off - a blow-by-blow account of my first encounter with a Cousin’s Ciabatta sandwich.

* 2:22 - I made a left turn onto Farwell, saw the Cousin’s on my right, and swung into a parking space
* 2:23 - I ask the Cousin’s employee with his hat turned 30-degrees to the right for a Tuscan Market Club sandwich.
* 2:26 - This is no Jimmy John’s. It’s been 3 minutes, and I still don’t have my sandwich
* 2:28 - We have sandwich. Time to get back to work.
* 2:33 - I unwrap the sandwich, and immediately notice that it’s cut very oddly. The bread itself is shaped traditionally - about 7 inches long, 2-1/2 inches wide. However, it’s cut from corner to corner - like you would a sandwich made of sliced bread. I also notice that the sandwich is mostly bread. Maybe that’s why they’re making such a big deal out of that on the commercials.
* 2:34 - First bite. Slightly tangy, mostly bread, and a hint of pepperocini. Not bad.
* 2:36 - Upon further inspection, there are *maybe* 4 slices of deli meat, once slice of cheese (at least it’s provolone), and a handful of cut iceburg lettuce. The sign said there was bacon in there, but I haven’t found it yet. A few onions, too.
* 2:40 - Found the bacon. It’s not what you would call “fresh”. Also, although this is all bread, the bread itself is pretty good. Personally, I would have piled twice as much meat on it as they did. It looks nothing like the photo.
* 2:42 - I’m working my way into the second half. Maybe all the sutffings shifted over to this side. It feels a little bit heavier.
* 2:44 - Note to self: in the future, just take mental notes, *then* write about it. Eat/Type/Eat/Type isn’t working out very well.
* 2:46 - Just wrapping up the second half. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, there were at least 1/3 more goodies on this half of the sandwich.

Well, there you have it. At $4.75 (tax included), I feel a little bit… taken. Maybe it was my choice of fillings - they also offered a Cubano Pork (which I learned consists of mostly sliced ham) and a Spicy Chicken Sedona (which I have no idea of what is on it, other than the obvious chicken). I’d be willing to give one of those a try, although I’m not real excited about it.
