Borrego’s

Dan & I had dinner on Saturday night at Borrego’s (The Chuck recently wrote about his trip there in May). I was pretty impressed.

The location - on Water Street in the Third Ward - was most recently occupied by Onyx. It’s a pretty narrow space, but runs the whole length of the building, from the street back to the river. I only took a peek inside the main dining area upstairs, since we had plans to dine below on the riverfront patio (they call it the “SpeakEasy”). It’s on the smallish side - 4 or 5 tables, all in close quarters. Service was a little on the iffy side (slow, and a little confused), although our bartender was great.

For dinner, I had the Camarones ala Mojo de Ajo. Simply delicious (Fierce!). It was shrimp in a white wine/mushroom sauce, served in a taco-salad shell. Grilled vegetables and Papas Fritas on the side. $12.95. Outstanding.

After dinner, we went back inside to listen to the live music. Friday and Saturday nights, there’s a couple of guys playing Spanish guitar, and they’re very, very good.

At the end of the evening, we fell short of our goal - drinking the bar out of Negro Modelo. We did come pretty close; I think there were 3 bottles left in the cooler when we were finished.

I look forward to returning. Soon.
