A Hunting We Will Go…

Round One of home-hunting happened over the weekend. Last week, Our Guy gave us a packet of printouts to dig through. We hadn’t given him much direction in terms of what we’re looking for - because we don’t know. The packets were broken down by location, and one by price. We were able to immediately disqualify about 1/3 of what was in there, and after rummaging through the rest, we found about 1/3 that we would have considered.

So, given that info, Our Guy lined up showings for us on Saturday afternoon. We never did make it down to Bay View - scheduling conflicts, or something. We did see 6 places in the downtown/eastside and ‘Tosa areas; a few single-family houses, a few condos.

Home number one was a fun house. Wait, #1 was like a funhouse. There was a definate tilt to the place. It was scratched from the list within 45 seconds.

Next we looked at 4 condos on the east side. The first was nice - great kitchen, garage, patio. A little on the smallish side. Second was better - lots of space, and some nice details (built in cabinets, etc.). Third was great - new construction, great location. Fourth was another odd one. It was a corner unit of a townhouse complex, and there were no right angles.

Finally, we ran back out to Wauwatosa to see another house. Looked great from the photo, but could have used some work. For one, I think they got a great deal on purple paint. Other than that, it was nice, but there were a lot of things that just weren’t quite right - the patio needed work, the kitchen needed work.

We’re trying to get Our Guy to line up showings at a few more places ASAP. Condo #3 is what we’re leaning towards, and it will likely sell in the very near future. We’d like to compare it to a few others in the same area/price range before deciding.

  1. Well, just heard from Our Guy about #3. Not going to happen.

Since it was new construction, we had the ability to spec out the materials for the kitchen and floors - but have to pay for it up front. We’d have to pony up $15 G in the next few days to pull it off. Maybe if it’s still there in a few weeks.
