I was doing my morning reading yesterday, and came across yet another search engine - a9, a wholly owned subsidiary of Amazon.com. It’s a simple little search engine - Google-esque to a point, but adds some of Amazon’s new search-inside-the-book functionality, as well as a saved-searches function. And, like so many others, they offer an IE-browser toolbar for you to download!
That got me thinking about how many of these toolbars I could cram into IE at once. As of now, I’m up to 9 — Google, Yahoo, A9, AltaVista, Vivisimo, eBay, MSN, Alexa, and Ask Jeeves. I know there are plenty more out there, but I’m running out of usable space in my window. The screenshot to the right was taken of an 800×600 window. Taking into account an open sidebar, the content pane itself only takes up 521×206 pixels, or about 22.35% of the available window space.
It’s a slow day, so I’m going to see what else I can get in there today… and then uninstall everything.
