An Open Letter to the Milwaukee Bucks

EnergeeDear Milwaukee Bucks,

I was one of the 18,717 people in attendance for game 3 of the playoff series against the Detroit Pistons on Saturday, April 26. I was also one of the estimated 9,000 people who chose to stay in their seats during the halftime intermission. To get straight to my point, I place the blame for the opening events of the second half of that game squarely on the shoulders of the Energee Dance Team.

The halftime show was pathetic. Was this not an NBA game? This goes beyond my personally feeling embarassed that my team would approve such a pitiful form of entertainment - “Energee” completely sucked the life out of the remaining crowd.

The halftime show had a theme of “A Tribute to 80’s Movie Music”. For the most part, it consisted of the dancing girls dressed up in different outfits, doing little routines to theme songs. Music from “Fame”:imdb, “Flashdance”:imdb, “Caddyshack”:imdb, “Footlose”:imdb, and “Risky Business”:imdb were among those performed. The most ridiculous one had to be the tribute to “Top Gun”:imdb, featuring a “squadron” of dancers with their arms outstretched pretending to be airplanes.

The bottom line is, those of us who stayed in our seats during the intermission were completely astounded at how bad that show was. It took most of the crowd several minutes to regain their senses, which was just long enough for the Pistons to open the third quarter with a 12-0 run.

I’m calling for the immediate dismissal of anyone involved in the authorization of the halftime show, and also for the disbanding of the Energee dance team. In return, I promise to watch the rest of this playoff series.

Thank you.

Mr. Bryan Buchs

  1. Bryan, Your weblog is insightful and entertaining. You may have fallen a little short on this one though. For many years, Streetlife has been just as guilty as Energee of sucking the lifeforce out of the Bucks and their fans.

  2. How ridiculous you sound to “blame” the outcome of a professional basketball game on a dance team. I too saw the halftime show and found it to be very creative and entertaining. The people I met after the game could not stop talking about how entertaining it was. While you are most definitely intitled to your opinion, I would guess that you are in the minority. You also failed mention any suggestions for entertainment to compliment the basketball game, so I can only think that you are a true basketball fan and disregard the entertainment package. After attending a number of NBA games in other cities I can say the the Buck’s Dance Team is among the most entertaining. Along with the band, Bango, breakdancers, I would say that the Buck’s have a very good entertainment package. From what I can tell they try to offer a variety of routines, rather than just doing one style of dance catering to a younger crowd (which the average Buck’s fan is not). Since I know that Energee! was not disbanded (I see tryouts coming up), am I to assume that you will not watch anymore Bucks games?

  3. I love a good, spirited debate. That said, yes, I am in fact, *ridiculous*. However, I stand by my comments - the halftime show was the impetus of a domino effect, culminating in a lackluster performace that ultimately ended in a brutal, brutal loss.

“I would guess that you are in the minority.”
Yes, I am in the minority. The minority of people who actually sat through this debacle. My eyes! My eyes!

“You also failed mention any suggestions for entertainment to compliment the basketball game, so I can only think that you are a true basketball fan and disregard the entertainment package.”
Thank you. Yes, yes I am (at least, I like to think so). My only suggestion is this: more breakdancing. And, if at all possible, midgets, or at least some really short people, or a little kid.

“Since I know that Energee! was not disbanded (I see tryouts coming up), am I to assume that you will not watch anymore Bucks games?”
I’m still holding out hope that Energee! will have their reign of boredom ended in the near future. As for my attendance at a future Milwaukee Bucks Basketball game, yes, I will be there - but I’ll go out to the concourse for a snack at halftime. I reserve my boycotting of professional sports for Major League Baseball (Boo, Baseball!)
