Back from vacation today. 4 sunny days and 3 nights in Las Vegas, Nevada. We stayed at the lovely Paris hotel and casino. I’ve been out there 7 times now (I think), and this is the third hotel I’ve stayed at - and probably the nicest one.

There was a massive Home Builder’s Expo going on. Let’s just say it’s nice to be around normal people again. I passed on the opportunity to go see the displays on the convention floor, but I hear that Kohler had quite a setup. I did get a few goodies, courtesy of Judy. The best one is a nice black & white glossy photo of Mr. Bob Vila, autographed specially for me. I’ll get a scan of that up soon. Unfortunately, Judy didn’t think that I would have any interest in a Bill Walton autograph.
As for the gambling, well…I’ve often heard the expression “how do you think they got the money to build these casinos?”. The answer to that is: conventions. Not only does the casino rake it in on the rooms, but the people that come to these things walk up to the tables with the money literally in their fists, waiting for their chance to lose. On top of that, the hotel gave out a $10 match-play voucher to guests - you play $10 and they match your bet, for a total of a $20 bet. Those things were the kiss of death. It’s hard enough to get on a winning streak, but then some moron jumps in with his voucher, has no idea what he’s doing, and screws it up for everyone. I just cringed everytime I saw one of those damn little slips…
