I put up a mediocre round (at best) last weekend, but somehow found myself atop the standings in the Buchs Cup Championship Series. See, it all comes down to improvement - and I happened to play that round slightly less worse than this guy. So it all comes down to this. If the weather holds out Saturday, we'll be playing. If not, given the personal schedules of the various participants (2), and the looming deadline of season's end... it may already be over. I'm clearing out space on the mantle for the trophy today.
Short version: Kettle Hills Golf Course kicked my ass. Worst round of my life, period. I've completely regressed. My swing has gone haywire, I haven't hit a decent tee shot in a month. My iron shots are tentative. I've lost all the confidence I had built up after an off-season of lessons. And I've lost the lead. We've got a few weeks left in the Buchs Cup Championship Series, and I have some ground to make up. What once looked like an insurmountable lead has been chipped away at by this guy, and now he's taken back the top spot. Don't read this as a concession speech. An hour at the range sometime this week and I'll be back ...
Rough weekend on the course. Good friend Mr. Andy Eberhardy was in town, so we scheduled a round with our Celebrity Fourth at Currie Park for Saturday AM. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate. What began as a mist on the 2nd hole turned into a drizzle by the 5th, and between the start and end of the 9th a steady down pour. Had I not been in the middle of the Greatest Round Of My Life, I wouldn't have been too upset about it. At the end of 9, Mr. Buchs Chump and I were tied at +12 (although I was playing bogey golf after the first six - the last three did me in). There was no chance of getting ...
The season opener of the 2008 Buchs Cup Championship Series is days away. I just got back from a golf lesson, and I have very, very bad news for this guy: game over man, game over. Here's a little story from back in the day. Once upon a time, I was an young swimmer. I was a freshman in high school, and had enough natural talent to do OK for myself. Coach Fred didn't work us like crazy, but he try to drill in some stroke technique. But, with 20 guys on the team and one full-time coach, getting dedicated, one-on-one instuction didn't happen all the time. Anyways, one day something clicked - Fred's pacing back and forth on the ...
I played an exhibition round with Dan, Les and his father on Sunday. A promising start to the 2008 golf season. Winds were whipping off the lake at Grant Park. My round began with a shanked tee shot on #1, followed by another shank, which was then followed by a 155 yard 8-iron that left me with a 12-footer for par (missed). The next few holes were unspectacular, but on #5 I started to find my swing. On the 205-yard par-3 #7, I hit a towering 5-iron that landed a few feet from the fringe... then shanked the pitch and 3-putted my way to a double-bogey. Finished the front with a respectable (considering the circumstances) 51, two shots ahead of 2007 ...
