Tales From The Green: Let’s Get It AWWWWNNNN!

The season opener of the 2008 Buchs Cup Championship Series is days away. I just got back from a golf lesson, and I have very, very bad news for this guy: game over man, game over.

Here’s a little story from back in the day. Once upon a time, I was an young swimmer. I was a freshman in high school, and had enough natural talent to do OK for myself. Coach Fred didn’t work us like crazy, but he try to drill in some stroke technique. But, with 20 guys on the team and one full-time coach, getting dedicated, one-on-one instuction didn’t happen all the time. Anyways, one day something clicked - Fred’s pacing back and forth on the deck and shouting at me triggered something. I can’t say for sure what it was, but everything felt different - and right.

That happened to me at golf tonight. I’m not sure what specifically it was, but something clicked and made me say, “Oh! That’s how that should feel…”

41 hours and counting until I reclaim this.

Would you be really upset if I told you I seem to have “misplaced” the Cup? I had it proudly displayed on the table with me when I was having breakfast at George Webb’s the other day - just as I do whenever I dine out - but when I came back from the restroom, it was nowhere to be found. I loudly yelled, “Excuse me, everyone - I’m Mr. Buchs Cup. Yes, THE Mr. Buchs Cup. No, please - no autographs, lady. Has anyone seen my 2007 Buchs Cup Championship Series trophy? It’s the shiny award with a plate across the front that says ‘Buchs Cup Champion’. No? No one’s seen my 2007 Buchs Cup Championship Series trophy anywhere? Damn. Bryan’s gonna be pissed that I misplaced my 2007 Buchs Cup Championship Series trophy. What’s that, sir? You’d like a lesson? Tell you what - you should call Bryan. I hear he knows a guy. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go get ready to defend my 2007 Buchs Cup Championship Series title.”

Yeah, couldn’t find the trophy, man. Sorry ’bout that. Maybe we can just play for quarters or somethin’. That’s the same thing, right?
