I’m not paranoid. But if I were…

I walk home for lunch almost every day. It’s about a 9-10 minute walk, which gives me about 40 minutes at home. it’s great - sometimes I’ll start a load of laundry, or play a few games of Wii Bowling, and of course, eat lunch.

As usual, I walked out the back door today and started back along my usual route to the office. In the parking lot behind our building, there was a USPS van in the spot closest to the driveway. The driver was walking up to the van and did not make eye contact with me. The time was 2:22 pm.

At 2:26 pm, I had made my way north on Prospect Avenue to the parking lot in front of the Korean restaurant. There, I spotted the very same USPS van. As I walked past, the driver leaned down close to what looked to be a clipboard. He did not make eye contact.

At 2:28 pm, I cut through the parking lot across from the old Prospect Mall, now the location of a Qdoba restaurant. When I made my way back out onto Ivanhoe Place, the very same USPS van was parked on the north end of the street. As I walked past, the driver did not make eye contact.

At that point, it occurred to me that the circumstances were more than odd. I looked back over my shoulder and picked up my pace, walking east on Ivanhoe until I reached Lake Drive. There, I turned left and made my way north to the office.

As I walked up the steps at 2:31 pm, I saw the very same USPS van parked across the street and ran inside.

I have not yet looked out the window, but I suspect he may be waiting for me.

  1. Don’t take any chances. Change your route. Take your lunch from 12:30 - 1:30.
