In what I hope will become a regular feature here at The World According To Buchs, I’d like to recount recent Great Golf Holes In Bryan Buchs’ History.
This last Saturday, I played nine holes early at Lincoln Park. Normally, I’d never be satisfied with nine holes, but the weather in Milwaukee was just brutal this weekend - wicked hot. So nine it was.
Speaking of nine, that’s where the story starts and ends. The rest of the round was infinitely forgettable. Stepping up to the tee on #9, a 298 yard par four hole, I pulled Big Blue out my my bag. I haven’t hit this driver but maybe 5 times this season - and none of those held the fairway. I took a nice swing at the ball, and it sailed dead ahead, coming to a rest on the fairway even with the 2nd fairway bunker - about 225 yards.
For my second shot, Mr. Dan Cody offered up the following wager: hole out for eagle, and earn myself a Surf-n-Turf dinner on him. After confirming that the dinner wasn’t a Filet O’ Fish and a Cheeseburger, I set up with a pitching wedge. Another easy swing, and my shot dropped out of the sky and onto the green about 3 feet right and 10 feet past the hole.
Upon further review, I was left with about a 12 footer downhill for birdie. Luckily, one of my playing partners had a longer putt along coming from the same direction, so I got a fairly good read at it. I gave it a push down the hill, right at the cup… and it stayed right online, *just* dropping into the hole. Mr. Dan Cody gave me the consolation prize, which will be a dinner of his choosing at some point in the future.
Hopefully I’ll be back again next Monday with more Tales From The Green.

I am eagerly awaiting many more installments of “Tales From The Green.” I think this is brilliant, but I’d like to suggest you give your playing partners nicknames or some such thing.
For example, we all know I’m fond of sometimes going by Jim “I’m hittin’ seven” Kogutkiewicz. Or, there’s the more appropriate, “Scramblin’ Jim,” which is a moniker that seems to be appropriate and enjoyed by all.
Hopefully, we’ll soon have a “Driver, Driver” story out of you regarding a certain 12th hole at Currie Park.
