Damn you, Sol Fire!

(OK, maybe that’s a little harsh. “Darn you, Sol Fire!” is probably more accurate.)

Judy & I were all set for Sammich Nite yesterday. She was going to be home from work earlier than usual, which would give us plenty of time to enjoy $3.00 sammiches, the Monday night special. If you’ve never enjoyed the Sol Fire Sammich Special, here’s the menu:

Mojo Burger
½ lb. Certified Angus ground beef, grilled and served with Solfire mojo sauce…$9.95

Grilled Portabella Sandwich
Served on a Kaiser roll with tobacco onions, greens and an
ancho aioli…$7.95

Cuban Pulled Pork Sandwich
Served with ham, pickles and cilantro~cumin mayonnaise…$8.95

Chilean Churasco Steak Sandwich
Thin slices of shoulder steak, button mushrooms, poblanos and
a smoked tomato steak sauce…$8.95

Sandwich Jibarito
(Milwaukee’s best breadless sandwich)
Layers of steak, lettuce and tomato paired with a classic mojo sauce and crisp green plantains playing the role of bread….$8.95

Each of those are served with your choice of Cumin Fries, Cilantro Rice, or the newly-added “Field Greens”. And the whole ball of wax is yours for a low, low price of $3.00 American. (Limit one per customer, no carry-outs)

Back to our story… Judy was running a little behind (What?!?), so we had to scramble downstairs at 6:25 (special ends at 6:30). As we walked up to the front door of the restaurant, we were greeted by a sign reading:

“Closed Monday 2/27 For Private Party

I shook my fist and walked away in disgust. And hungry.

  1. Yeah, that really sucked. Especially looking in at all the people eating, drinking, and having a good time, and knowing that we weren’t allowed in. I used to think of Sol Fire as our “kitchen away from home,” but then reality hits and you remember it’s just a cold, hard business. (OK, that might be a little dramatic, but you get the picture)
