Did anyone catch Tim Michels’ “concession” speech last night? What a classless fuck. “Just was’t our day - we’ll get them next time”. Not a mention of the (typically) obligatory “I’d like to congratulate my opponent…”
On the other hand, Russ Feingold’s speech was a little… weird. I think he may have been drinking (of course, if there’s ever been a reason to drink, it’s winning your third term in the senate, with a bullseye on your chest from the Republican attack dogs). Russ was just “enthusiastic”, then went on to thank, oh, *everyone*.
Good for Russ, though. I’m ecstatic that he won.

re: michels. did you hear how he thanked his mother? like it was something his image guy was forcing him to do as to not aliienate the “mother” demographic. not very convincing… i bet his mom silently weeps a lot.

I think Waukesha County, of all places, tells the whole story about Tim Michels and why he sends that cold, slimy ripple of fear up your back. In this booming ode to evangelical values-lovers of a suburb, Feingold received 10,000 more votes than John Kerry.
This is a county that went 2-1 for Bush and where I saw grown men have no problem around children with using obscenities to shout down Kerry supporters. Yet, 10,000 people who pulled the lever (or whatever the fuck it is we do now) for Bush decided Feingold was a better senator than the veteran/family man/Christ-lover.
Clearly, the guy has a bad odor even his own kind recognizes as being dangerous.

i think it’s more than that - though i don’t underestimate the revolting power of michels’ foul stench (the smell of pedophilia concealed with a flag in my humble estimation).
i think russ feingold actually stands for something and people trust that. they know where he’s going - or think they do. people can trust their impressions of feingold. you can’t say that about a lot of Dems these days.

The Feingold Trust, as I’ll call it, is something a coworker alluded to last night. He phrased it a little differently, though, and called Feingold a maverick. Besides the pockets of Dems in the city of Waukesha, a lot of the rural areas in Waukesha County have residents who prefer being on the outside of things and standing for unique positions. Clearly, Feingold’s Patriot Act vote and anti-Washington vibe resonates with them.
I still don’t get how there were people who swallowed the patriotism/Patriot Act/with-us-or-against-us lines from Bush but then supported Feingold. How can you be for one thing in the presidential race but against it in a senate race?

but i think the point isn’t the particulars of a bill or policy position… it’s the trust. people feel the same way about bush - they trust him in that they feel like they know what he’s going to do. he’s going to be “strong”. he’s going to cut taxes. and he’s going to just say no to ass-sex (or those who love ass-sex)
they don’t have to agree with him… they feel a certain stability, so why not vote for him.
