Go! Go! Go! - uh, No! Um…

Redskins ball, 3rd and 10. Brunell throws a 40+ yard touchdown to Clinton Portis. Packers are about to go down by 1 with about 2 minutes remaining. The first thing that goes through my head as Clinton Portis is rumbling into the end zone is "Yes!!!". Then I realize Green Bay is about to lose the game. After a penalty on Washington, the touchdown is called back. And I'm not sure how I feel about it. After taking a look at the score of my game, I decide that the 10 points on that play wouldn't have made that much of a difference, and resign myself to cheering for the Packers' victory. This is what Fantasy Football does to you.

(Layer One) - 1 = Me + Freelance

Today is my last day at Layer One Media, Inc.. I joined Layer One ("L1") just shy of 3 years ago. I jumped over from Starkmedia in November of 2001. I felt that I had progressed as far as I could have at that company, and was ready to take on a bigger challenge. When I left, I told that owner I felt I had to either take this new position, or start my own company - which I wasn't prepared to do at the time. At the time, L1 was a "start-up" company, and I was their first employee. I was attracted to the position because (1) they were pretty gung-ho about using Cold Fusion as the primary ...

Color iPod

Apple just announced the next generation model of the iPod. As had been speculated, the new version has a color screen, and adds the ability to store and view photos. There's a new cable that will allow you to connect it to your TV set and run a slideshow. Cool, I guess... There was speculation that there would be a version of iPhoto released for Windows, and that application would be how photos would be transferred to the iPod. Instead, they released an upgraded version of iTunes that does the same thing. With the addition of photos, the iPod now transfers over album cover art via iTunes, which is actually kind of ...

eBay Funny

This guy at work saw me poking around eBay the other day - I was trying to sell an old cell phone I'm not using anymore. He suggested I check out some of the feedback for this user. eBay's system is set up so that after you complete a transaction with another user, you have the opportunity to leave feedback. You're only allowed to leave feedback for those members - you can't just randomly run around a leave comments about someone. I haven't been able to corroborate this story, but I was told that there was a bug in the system for a short time that allowed anyone to post feedback for anyone. Mr. "andy46477" took advantage ...

Wah-Wah-Wah…

Last night was the Great Crab Eating Championship Of The World. Mr. Daniel Cody and myself squared off at Las Palmas in a battle of intestinal fortutide. Literally. Several months ago, the boys and I spent the weekend in Chicago. It's now commonly referred to as "Buchs' Weekend", because (1) I walked away with The "Mr. Risk" title, and (2) I thoroughly squashed Dan in a friendly swimming competition. Shortly after that weekend, Dan let it be known that he was a big fan of Crab. I responded that I, too, enjoyed the Crab - a lot. Well, one thing led to another, and Dan spouted off some nonsense about being able to ...

R.E.M. - “Around The Sun”

The new R.E.M. disc - Around The Sun [iTunes] - is officially available. I've had it for, uh, a little bit now, and I think I've listened to it enough to give an honest review. The first few runs through, I wasn't quite sure. But it's come to grow on me. A lot. The best track, by far, is the first single Leaving New York [iTunes]. Beyond that, "Around the Sun" and "Electron Blue" are also potential singles. I think, however, that it's one of those albums that has to be taken as a whole, not as a collection of singles. The production style is much different than their ...

He’s doing much better now…

Brian Wilson, as everyone knows (right?), was the driving force behind the Beach Boys. And, as most everyone knows, had some, uh... tough times for the a bit (30 years). But, he's doing muchbetter now. I got a chance to see him in concert about 3 years ago - he opened for Paul Simon at Summerfest in 2001. That was his first tour since the early 70's. This article over at Yahoo! talks about the cicumstances leading up to it, but the big news is that Wilson has recently finished, and released an album that was supposed to be the Beach Boys followup to Pet Sounds - SMiLE. That was right ...

New Phone

Back in March of this year, I broke down and got myself a cell phone. I had always sworn that I'd never, ever need or want one, but I couldn't hold out any longer. Then, a few weeks later, I wrote about how my frustration at trying to exchange the cheapo "free" phone I received with the new service. Well, a short 7 months later, and I finally went out and upgraded that phone. I used to have the Sony-Ericsson t226. It was certainly servicable - I was able to make calls, I was able to receive calls. Heck, I was even able to load some fancy-schmancy ringtones onto the thing. My major point of displeasure with that model ...

Jim Lehrer is an Asshole.

Did anyone else catch on to the fact that the moderator, Jim Lehrer, repeatedly allowed Bush to break the rules of the debate? It was pretty clearly stated that the format would be question –> 2 minute response –> 90-second rebutal, and then an "optional, at my discretion" 30-second followup for each. Repeatedly, Bush jumped back in after Kerry’s rebutal, and then they moved onto the next question. Which equates to 2:30 for Bush, 1:30 for Kerry. At one point, Kerry called him on it. I didn’t catch specifically what he said, but Bush, after Kerry’s rebutal to his response, jumped in with a "I’d like to respond to that...", and Kerry replied [something like], "Sure, let’s just rewrite the rules as ...
