Couch Potatoes

Tonight is what I’ll consider the kickoff of the fall TV season. First up, at 7:00 CST on ABC, Lost. It’s a show about a group of people who survive a plane crash, but are “lost” on a remote island. Mayhem ensues. It was created by J.J. Abrahms, who’s also responsible for a little show called “Alias“. Based on some of the reviews it’s gotten already, Lost should be the best new show of the season.

Over on NBC, it’s the season premiere of Law & Order. It’s never been the smartest show on TV, but it’s certainly fun to watch. Unfortunately, last season saw the end of the road for Lenny - easily my favorite character from the series. You had to make a point of catching the first 60 seconds of the show, where Lenny & partner arrive at a crime scene, then Lenny busts a one-liner while standing over the corpse. Lenny is replaced this year by Dennis Farina, which should be interesting. I can’t think of anything I’ve seen him in that he *didn’t* play someone you were rooting against. Also returning is my second-favourite sound clip on TV: “cha-CHUNK” (the best being 24’s “cheep-PLUNK”).

Sadly, the other 2 shows that I’ll be glued this fall won’t be airing until January. Alias and 24 both decided to postpone their season openers until after the new year. But, the good news is that they’ll both run uninterrupted until the end of the season - no repeats.

I’ll probably catch some of Smallville again this year. I got suckered in early on, and I want to see how it all plays out. It’s airing against Lost, but thanks to the magic of DVR, I’ll be able to see both. I lost interest in E.R. last year, sometime after the helicopter fell on Dr. Romano. I haven’t decided yet if I’ll try and pick it back up.

  1. I’ll be watching Lost too. It looks good. I wonder if the show will address who’s watching Owen while Charlie is stranded on the island with the dinosaurs. Or, if Bailey can stay off the hooch long enough to head up the search/rescue mission to save his brother. And, what’s going on with Julia? Oh, boy!

  2. Of course you’ll be watching it. You don’t really have many options, sans cable.
