Aw, man... I just happened upon an article titled Alias's Lauren Not Dead Yet?. Apparently, Melissa George is holding out hope that her character didn't die from the 8 or 9 gunshot wounds in the season finale of Alias last year. Personally, I hope that she bounced off the walls of the pit she fell into, was impaled on a stalactite at the bottom, and was then buried by any loose rocks and debris that followed her down. I really love that show, but last season was a huge disappointment.
Many, many times, my good friend The Chuck has asked me to share my knowledge of the culinary arts with him. At first, he wanted some one-on-one lessons, just the basics. Recently, he'd requested that I offer group sessions, where he and several other people could come to my home, and I would walk through the process of making a dish with them. That's a bit much for me - primarily because I'm a horrible teacher. I have no patience for stupid questions. I was thinking about it recently, and decided that I would try to post some of my favourite recipes here. I'll get photos up at a later date. So, here you go... my first recipe to share are ...
I am unable to function properly without coffee. However, in order to make the coffee, I must be able to function properly. It's like the chicken and the egg. About 20 minutes ago, I started a pot of coffee. Grounds in the filter, water in the reservoir, turn the thing on, go back to desk. About 3 minutes later, I hear an unusual splashing noise. In my morning stupor, I forgot to place the coffee pot under the drip. What a mess.
I'm re-writing this code as part of my upcoming re-launch. I'll post more on it then. As I mentioned in a recent post, I updated my category list pages. They're now live PHP pages, allowing the user to sort the list by the column headings. Just in case someone might find it useful, I'm posting the code here. Please keep in mind that PHP is not my native tongue - I just found a way to do what I needed to do. I'm sure it could be optimized and cleaned up beyond what I've done. View the code or an example.
Tonight is what I'll consider the kickoff of the fall TV season. First up, at 7:00 CST on ABC, Lost. It's a show about a group of people who survive a plane crash, but are "lost" on a remote island. Mayhem ensues. It was created by J.J. Abrahms, who's also responsible for a little show called "Alias". Based on some of the reviews it's gotten already, Lost should be the best new show of the season. Over on NBC, it's the season premiere of Law & Order. It's never been the smartest show on TV, but it's certainly fun to watch. Unfortunately, last season saw the end of the road for Lenny - easily my favorite character ...
Judy & I spent (most of) the weekend in Spring Greeen for Rajan & Tora's wedding. Contrary to other people's opinions, we stayed at the premiere lodging establishment in the area, the Spring Green Inn. The trip up there was a bit of an adventure. We made a few pit stops along the way, so the drive took us almost 4 hours total. We barely made it in time for the dinner on Saturday night, and I'm glad we did - the food was wonderful. Saturday evening was quite fun - too much fun, in fact. Sunday morning was rough. The ceremony itself was beautiful, although I could have done ...
So this whole website thing is a work in progress. As I have the time, I try to add features or tweak things. The latest update I'm trying to make is the addition of sortable archive list pages. I'd like to have my category list pages be sorted by a user-defined variable. Put simply, a table that you can sort by clicking a column header - title, date, number of comments, etc. The problem MovableType generates static HTML code. There's no interaction with the database as the page is written. Solutions? My first attempt was to use a plugin that allowed me to pass a SQL query to the database - MTSql. I quickly realized that, although I was able to define ...
I just ran across an interesting read at The New Yorker website - an interview with the press secretary for the Embassy of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan, of course, is the native land of Borat, star of the television show "Borat's Guide to America". Apparently, the government of Kazakhstan would like to point out a few misconceptions that have been propogated by Mr. Borat. For instance, in Kazakhstan it is not customary for a man to grab another man’s khrum. Make sure you read the last paragraph.
I was in need of some driving music last week, so I hopped back on to iTunes and grabbed the new disc by The Twilight Singers. It's awsome. This album is pretty close to the sound of the old Whigs stuff. One of the Afghan Whigs specialties were their live cover songs - and this disc continues that trend. All the songs on this disc are covers - some I know, some I don't. They all sound very distinct, though. Even if you know the originals, you won't recognize them at first. The best ...
I made a trip to the Exclusive Company last week, looking for the new David Garza box set. They didn't have it in stock, but I did see on the Big Board that there was a new Matthew Sweet album scheduled for release this week. I was poking around on iTunes last night, and saw that it was available there. I've been a big fan of his stuff for quite some time - 100% Fun and Altered Beast are my favorites. I wasn't as impressed with In Reverse, and although I enjoyed The Thorns, it was clearly a "project". Anyways, I'm listening to Living Things right ...
ESPN has another of their Top 10 [Fill-In-The-Blank] lists online. This one is The best NFL openers. Number 9 on the list: September 8, 2002, Atlanta at Green Bay. The only time I've made the trip up to Lambeau Field. My dad & his friend John used to have season tickets when the Packers played home games at County Stadium. When they moved all the games back to Green Bay, the Milwaukee ticket holders were allowed to move up there. So, ever since, there have been "Green Bay" games and "Milwaukee" games - 4 each. About 4 years ago, John, who had been ...
Well, the jerks over at Sears sure blew it. Welcome to the List! We bought the grill last weekend, and after talking to Andy, decided that it was a good idea to let a trained professional assemble it. So, Judy called Sears to get some info, and found out that it would take 2 days to get it done. Later we found out it was 2 *business* days. Oh, and since it was Labor Day weekend, it would most likely be Tuesday. Well, that wasn't going to work for us. So, we returned the grill to Sears, and then hopped over to Home Depot. They had 3 fully-assembled versions of the exact same grill, ...
