Bryan T. Buchs, Esq.

I can’t say that I’m a fan of his music. Actually, I can’t say that I’m not, either - I’ve only heard one song. But for the last 3 months, John Mayer has been writing a short column (”Resident Rock Star”) for My Favourite Magazine - Esquire. It’s not really about anything, just his musings and insight. It’s actually pretty good stuff.

Last month, he wrote about some of his ideas and suggestions for the record industry. Here’s one I enjoyed; I can only assume he’s talking about the RIAA suing P2P users:

» Stop suing kids. If R. Kelly can’t piss on ‘em, you can’t, either.

This month, he recapped some of the highlights from his recent credit-card statements - “the Not-So-Fabulous Life of John Mayer“:

4/04/04: LOUIS VUITTON #92, NEW YORK; $4,812.19 During the four months in which I thought I might be a suit man, I went big on two high-class outfits at LV. I never tried them on, and I’ll probably never have them tailored. On a related note, I’ve worn the same jeans every day since March, and I buy my shoes on eBay.

4/30/04: FRONTIER*CALLUS, $1,563.25 Being a rock star means having any girl you want, anywhere, anytime. That’s why from January 1 to April 30, I spent more than $1,500 on phone sex. The bulkiest charge occurred at the tail end of New Year’s Eve, which sounds about right, being that I stayed home to water the humidifiers in my guitar cases.

I really enjoy the guest-columnist features. Barry Sonnenfeld has been doing a column called “Barry Sonnenfeld’s Gadget of the Month” for almost a year now. The guy loves tech toys, and he seems to enjoy letting us know what’s new.

Just a few more reasons why I love Esquire. I think I’m in my 5th year of subscription now - and I have *every* issue in a box, just in case I ever need one. You never know…
