iTunes?

There was a new version of iTunes released yesterday. I was reading up over at SlashDot, and found a posting there about it. I raced over to the download page, grabbed the installer, and did my thing.

I made my way back over to /. to report on my findings. I don’t typically post, but someone specifically asked what was new in this version. After running the app, I immediately noticed a few things:

# The title bar was completely mac-like. Window controls are in the upper-left side, and the window title itself is centered.
# Right-Clicking the titlebar brought up an Options menu that I’ve never seen before. It’s called “Plugin Options”, and has preferences like “skin the titlebar”, “always on top”, and “minimize to tray”.

Naturally, I felt the need to share these findings with the group.

Af few hours later, received notice that there had been a reply to my post. (Oddly enough, I also received a different notice that someone had posted a comment to this log. Turned out to be… not so friendly). At any rate, there were to replies, and both were flat-out calling me a liar.

So, it now being roughly 9:00 at night, and me not having access to my office computer, I tried updating my home version of iTunes. And, lo and behold, *none* of the things I saw at work were present in that install. Weird?!

I raced into work this morning to take screenshots of the “funny” version I was running. I have them posted over on my .Mac webspace. Check it out.

So, my conclusions are:

# I somehow downloaded a not-for-public-consumption version of the installer.
# There’s something else running on my system causing the issue.
# I’m very, very high.

  1. Well, it looks like #2 is the most likely culprit. Craig used the same insaller I did to upgrade his copy, and it looked nothing like mine.
