OK, I saw it last night. I haven’t read the books in about 20 years. (There aren’t many things I can say that I haven’t done in 20 years, but this is one of them.) So I’m a little shaky on what exactly was and wasn’t in the book/movie. It was a fantastic film, though. The battle scenes are fantastic, and the Frodo-Sam-Golum stuff is great. I’ve seen some reviews proclaiming it “best picture” already. I need to let it sink in a little bit…
On a side note, one of the people I went to see it with was one of my High School english teachers. She’s kept in touch with a friend of mine, and I haven’t seen her in about 4, 5 years. She was the last one to arrive, and we were all standing in line waiting. She walked up and said, “you look vaguely familiar…”, which I thought was a joke (who could forget this face?!), so I introduced myself. Ha ha ha, except she really didn’t recognize me. When she realized who I was, she went on about how much I’ve “grown up”. I wasn’t sure what to make of that… I haven’t changed that much, have I?
